Amount The total amount to be awarded by the participating ICs and the number of awards will depend upon the quality and merit of applications received and the availability of funds.

Qualifications Individuals with a clinical doctoral degree interested in pursuing a career in patient-oriented research should refer to the NIH Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23). Candidates for K08 award must have a clinical doctoral degree. They must also be U.S. citizens or non-citizen nationals, or must have lawfully been admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence at the time an offer of an award is made. Individuals on temporary visas are not eligible. Candidates must be able to commit at least 75% of full-time professional effort to the career development and research objectives of the application.
